About
If you find yourself wandering through the vibrant streets of Milan, a treasure awaits at Modus Via Maffei, tucked away at Via Andrea Maffei, 12. This pizzeria captures the essence of traditional Neapolitan cuisine while infusing it with the unique flavors from the Cilento region, located south of Naples. Chef Paolo De Simone, the culinary mastermind behind this venture, ensures that every dish resonates with authenticity and quality.
The rave reviews from patrons speak volumes. Carlo M. Bajetta praises the gourmet pizza offerings, highlighting their impressive quality and reasonable pricing. Such standards align well with Milan's reputation for culinary excellence, making it a must-visit for aficionados of Italian cuisine. Guglielmo Zanghi shared an unforgettable experience with their zucchini and fiori di zucca pizza, declaring it the best he's ever tasted — a testament to the skillful execution that defines Modus Via Maffei.
However, the experience isn’t without its nuances. Anna provides a contrasting viewpoint, where the warmth of service fell short, with burnt dough detracting from an otherwise solid pizza. This duality in reviews suggests that while Modus Via Maffei has the potential to delight, there are occasional missteps that could impact your dining experience.
For those willing to take a culinary adventure, Modus Via Maffei offers a dynamic range of pizzas suited for every palate. Vincenzo Prestera noted that the variety exceeds expectations, making a reservation essential, especially on weekends. Indeed, the bustling atmosphere and demand speak to its popularity among both locals and tourists.
Robbe Maselis’ experience encapsulates what makes Modus a noteworthy destination. The Oscar e Mario pizza he enjoyed, with its perfectly crafted dough, rich toppings like sausage and provola, and a delightful ricotta-filled crust, showcases how flavors can harmoniously blend. The complimentary appetizer and decadent tiramisu further highlight the attention to detail and service that keeps guests returning.
In essence, Modus Via Maffei isn’t just about pizza; it’s about passion for food. The journey through its menu is one of exploration — expect bursts of flavor and culinary traditions that pay homage to the heart of Italian gastronomy. As you consider your next meal in Milan, let Modus Via Maffei be your guiding star. Experience the culinary artistry and perhaps create your own memorable review after indulging in its offerings.
“ I’ve tried pizze with zucchine, but this one is easily hands down by far the best pizza with zucchine and fiori di zucca ever!! We’ve ordered it for delivery and it arrived perfect! We got home, froze it, ate it 2 days after re-heated in the oven and it was still absolutely bomb!! ”
“ Gourmet pizza and food from the Cilento (south of Naples - Salerno) area. Pretty impressive. Reasonably priced for such quality food - certainly not above Milanese standards. Recommended. ”
“ When I asked an Italian friend to recommend a pizzeria for my short stay in Milan, I was not expecting that he would send me so far out of the city center to pizzeria Modus. But am I glad that I followed his advice and went the extra mile. The restaurant is a project of the Cilento-based chef Paolo De Simone, and the menu shows his best practices to develop a pizza recipe according to traditional Neapolitan cuisine. I was literally speechless after finishing my Oscar e Mario pizza at Modus. The dough is simply amazing. Soft but still firm, well-seasoned and above all the perfect thickness in the middle. The sausage, eggplant, provola and the ricotta-filled crust were an amazing combination of tastes. Despite the tender and soft ricotta cheese, the pizza base was not soggy at all. The experience only became better with the appetizer on the house (toasted bread with a piece of salami and, I think, zucchini pesto). The tiramisu was the cherry on the cake. I've had many pizzas in my life, but this one comes close to being THE best. ”
“ We had high expectations of this place due to the high rangings but we were a bit disappointed. The staff was a bit rude and we did not feel welcome. The pizzas were good but not exceptional. A lot of burnt dough that was not edible. We visit the best pizzeria across the world according to the 50 top pizza ratings so we are no beginners. There are better pizza places in Milan. ”
“ I went with my husband and my daughter on a trip to Milan and visited Modus Milano after seeing it had one of the best pizzas in Italy. Besides the great location, spectacular design and atmosphere, the service and food was absolutely amazing. We tried the small tapas with traditional food from the Cilento area from South Italy and different types of pizzas, from the most simple ones to the most sophisticated combinations. Paolo (the owner) served us and recommended great cocktails to pair with the food. The best Italian food I've ever had. 100% recommended. ”
“ I visited this restaurant on September 2024 for a dinner with friends. Overall the experience was ok. There are several type of pizzas for any type of tasty. Staff were friendly although I have to say that one waiter totally missed one pizza ordination for our table and as a result we waited additional 20 minutes for having all dishes, with people eating in a scattered way - not a best experience. Prices are slightly high compared to other similar pizza restaurants in the same area. Strongly recommend to reserve a table in advance especially during the week-ends. Not having a reservation It is very unlikely to find a table for larger groups. ”
